The Challenge: Build an Entire Venture, Not Just an App
Rishikesh runs one of India's largest river-rafting economies — 600+ rafts and 300+ independent operators — almost entirely on manual coordination, opaque pricing, and cash settlement. RaftingX set out to turn that into a managed marketplace. That meant building the software and the demand engine at the same time, against a hard seasonal deadline: a consumer launch timed to the post-monsoon rafting window.
The work that had to happen — in parallel, in one season:
- ✗ A two-sided platform: tourist booking, operator management, guide field-ops, and government oversight — one system, many roles.
- ✗ Field reality: guides run 90-minute trips on a river gorge with no connectivity — the app has to work offline and reconcile later.
- ✗ Fairness & money: trips assigned equitably across 300+ operators, payouts settled within a day, Indian GST handled per operator.
- ✗ A market to win: a brand, a search presence, and a content/social engine ready before the launch window opened.
