Legacy PHP and .NET upgrade: what breaks, part by part, and a staged plan
Your application runs on old PHP, .NET Framework, classic ASP, VB6, Delphi, AngularJS or Java 8. It still works, but the platform gets no more security fixes and nobody wants to touch the upgrade. Before anyone quotes for the work, we read the code and tell you what an upgrade really involves.
Need everything the system does written down, for a replacement? See the Legacy System Specification Assessment.
Who it’s for
- Owners of an application on a PHP, .NET Framework or VB6 version that gets no more security fixes.
- IT heads who have been asked “what would the upgrade cost?” and can’t answer without reading the code.
- Teams whose hosting provider or security reviewer is pushing them off an old runtime.
What you get
A part-by-part verdict
Which parts can move to a supported version and which need rebuilding.
What breaks
The libraries, functions and integrations that stop working on the new version, and where they are used.
Options, with our recommendation
For each part, what an upgrade, paid support or a rebuild would involve, and what we recommend. The decision is yours.
A staged plan
One module at a time while the old system keeps running, with no single cutover.
Stacks we read
- VB6
- Delphi
- AngularJS
- PHP (4 to 8)
- Java 8
- .NET Framework / classic ASP
Oracle Forms, PL/SQL-heavy applications, COBOL and mainframe are not offered.
How it works
-
Step 1
Kick-off and access
We talk through the system and what you are aiming for. Code access comes only when the review begins.
-
Step 2
Read the code
AI does a first pass; our senior engineers review it and trace each finding to the code.
-
Step 3
Verdict and options
For each part: move to a supported version or rebuild, and what an upgrade, paid support or a rebuild would involve.
-
Step 4
Staged plan and readout
A plan to work one module at a time while the old system keeps running. We walk you through it.
What you own
- The verdict and the plan are yours; any supplier can work from them.
- Code access is read-only and logged, never used for training, and deleted within 30 days of the evaluation ending unless we engage. You can start with a conversation about the system.
- If you go ahead, the work is billed by milestone, each milestone tied to a module you accept, and you can pause after any accepted module.
What it does not cover
- The upgrade or rebuild itself. It is staged and quoted separately.
- A full written specification of what the system does. That is our Legacy System Specification Assessment.
- Data migration.
- Oracle Forms, PL/SQL-heavy applications, COBOL or mainframe systems.

Legacy upgrade questions
How is this different from your Legacy System Specification?
This answers what an upgrade involves and in what order. The specification writes down everything the system does, for a rebuild.
Do we have to rebuild?
No. The verdict is part by part. For each part we set out upgrade, paid support or rebuild, with our recommendation, and you decide.
Will there be a big-bang switch?
No. Work goes one module at a time while the old system keeps running, and you can pause after any accepted module.
Can we start without sharing code?
You can start with a conversation about the system. The review itself needs read-only code access, logged, never used for training and deleted within 30 days unless we engage.
